Possible Causes
Stuck mechanical thermostat contacts, Faulty NTC temperature sensor reading too warm, Control board not cycling compressor off
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the thermostat or control board.
Steps to address overcooling:
- Adjust settings: Raise the temperature setting (warmer) and monitor for 24 hours. If no change, continue.
- Check thermostat (mechanical models): Locate the thermostat behind the control knob. Turn the knob from coldest to warmest and listen for a click. No click may indicate stuck contacts.
- Test thermostat continuity: With power unplugged, remove the thermostat and test continuity across its terminals while turning the knob. Replace if it does not open/close correctly.
- Check sensor (digital models): Inspect the cabinet NTC sensor for proper placement and damage. Replace if resistance readings are out of spec.
- Control board evaluation: If thermostat/sensor are good but the compressor rarely shuts off, the control board relay may be stuck and the board should be replaced.
Note: Persistent overcooling wastes energy and can damage some foods. Address control issues promptly.
