Possible Causes
Door gasket air leak, Thermostat set too cold, Control board not recognizing setpoint
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Most checks can be done with power on. Unplug the unit before removing any panels.
Steps to reduce continuous running:
- Check temperature setting: Set the control to a slightly warmer setting and monitor for 24 hours.
- Inspect door gasket: Look for gaps, tears, or hardened sections. Close a strip of paper in the door at several points; if it pulls out easily, the gasket may not be sealing.
- Level the cabinet: Ensure the freezer is level or slightly tilted back so the door closes by itself and seals properly.
- Check for frost around door: Frost near the door opening indicates warm air infiltration. Replace the gasket if damaged.
- Control check: If the unit still runs nonstop with a good seal and moderate setting, the thermostat or control board may be misreading temperature and should be tested or replaced.
Note: In very hot rooms or garages, longer run times are normal, but the compressor should still cycle off periodically.
