Possible Causes

Failed evaporator NTC thermistor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Broken or shorted sensor wiring, Faulty control board input for evaporator sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Wear cut-resistant gloves when working near metal panels and coils.

Steps to address E2:

  • Access the evaporator area: Remove the interior rear panel inside the freezer compartment to expose the evaporator coil (usually held by a few screws).
  • Locate the sensor: Look for a small probe clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing with two wires leading to the control harness.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator coil. If it has fallen off, reattach it using aluminum tape or the original clip so it makes good thermal contact.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for ice damage, corrosion, or broken insulation on the sensor wires. Verify the connector at the control board is tight and clean.
  • Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the cabinet sensor value at similar temperature; a reading of 0 ohms or infinite indicates failure.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a new evaporator temperature sensor (NTC) if readings are out of spec. Route the wiring away from sharp fins and secure it.
  • Evaluate control board: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.

Note: After replacement, allow several hours of operation for the control to recalibrate and clear the error.
