Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Debris or food particles in drain trough, Cracked or misaligned drain funnel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Use towels to absorb water and prevent slipping.
Steps to clear a blocked drain:
- Remove interior panels: Take out the lower baskets and interior rear panel to access the evaporator and drain trough.
- Locate drain hole: Find the small hole or channel at the bottom center of the evaporator tray.
- Defrost ice: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to melt ice in the drain hole. Repeat until water flows freely.
- Clear blockage: Gently insert a flexible plastic tube or pipe cleaner into the drain to dislodge debris. Do not use rigid metal that could puncture the tube.
- Check exterior drain end: At the back of the freezer, locate the end of the drain tube above the drain pan. Ensure it is not blocked or kinked.
- Reassemble: Dry the area, reinstall panels, and restore power.
Tip: Periodically cleaning the drain area can prevent future ice buildup.
