Possible Causes
Door/lid opened frequently, High humidity environment, Freezer not manually defrosted as recommended, Minor lid gasket leaks
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before defrosting. Do not use sharp tools or open flames.
Steps to defrost a manual unit:
- Remove contents: Transfer food to a cooler or another freezer.
- Speed up defrost: Place bowls of hot water inside and close the lid to help melt ice. Replace water as it cools.
- Remove loose ice: As ice loosens, gently remove it by hand. Do not pry against the liner.
- Clean and dry: Wipe interior with a mild baking soda solution, then dry thoroughly.
- Check lid gasket: Inspect and replace the lid gasket if it is damaged to reduce future frost.
Tip: Plan to defrost manual freezers when frost thickness reaches about 1/4 inch (6 mm).
