Possible Causes

Normal defrost cycle indication, Defrost cycle not terminating due to bad sensor, Stuck defrost relay on control board, Shorted defrost heater causing overheat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before testing defrost components.

  • 1. Determine if dF is normal: Some Electrolux models briefly show dF while in a scheduled defrost. If it clears within 20–40 minutes and cooling resumes, this is normal.
  • 2. If dF persists: Remove the interior rear panel and check if the evaporator is warm and free of frost. A constantly warm evaporator indicates a defrost system stuck on.
  • 3. Test defrost sensor and thermostat: Verify that the defrost sensor and thermostat open at the correct temperature. Replace if they remain closed when warm.
  • 4. Inspect control board: If the heater is energized continuously despite correct sensor operation, the defrost relay on the control board may be welded closed. Replace the main control board.
  • 5. Protect contents: If the freezer remains warm, move food to another freezer until the fault is corrected.
