Possible Causes
Defective cabinet NTC temperature sensor, Broken or shorted sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector at control board, Failed main control board temperature input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer from the wall outlet before removing any panels or handling wiring. Use insulated tools and avoid working on a wet floor.
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. If E1 clears and does not return, it may have been a transient fault.
- 2. Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Electrolux freezers, the cabinet NTC is clipped to the liner wall behind a small plastic cover or embedded in the rear wall. Remove the interior shelves and the cover to access it.
- 3. Inspect wiring and connector: Check the sensor leads for cuts, pinches, or rodent damage. Ensure the connector is fully seated on the sensor and at the main control board (usually in the top or rear control housing).
- 4. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (around 20–25°C / 68–77°F), most Electrolux NTC sensors read between 4–15 kΩ (check your service manual for exact spec). If the reading is open (OL), shorted (near 0 Ω), or far outside spec, replace the sensor.
- 5. Check continuity to the board: If the sensor tests good, test continuity from the sensor connector to the main control board connector. Repair or replace any damaged harness.
- 6. Replace the main control board if needed: If the sensor and wiring are good but E1 persists, the temperature input circuit on the control board may be faulty. Replace the main control board following the service manual, transfer any jumpers, and reconnect all plugs firmly.
