Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the fan. Beware of sharp metal edges and ice.
- 1. Access the evaporator fan: Remove interior shelves and the rear panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- 2. Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. If present, fully defrost the area with the unit unplugged and towels in place. Do not pry ice with sharp tools.
- 3. Spin the fan by hand: The fan should rotate freely. If it is stiff or seized, replace the fan motor assembly.
- 4. Test fan voltage (advanced): With the unit reassembled enough for safe operation, plug in and close the door switch. Carefully measure voltage at the fan connector when the compressor is running. If correct voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan motor.
- 5. Check wiring and board: If no voltage is present at the fan and wiring is intact, the main control board fan driver may be faulty. Replace the main control board.
