Possible Causes
Stuck-closed temperature sensor reading too warm, Main control board relay stuck on, Incorrect sensor placement, Faulty thermostat on mechanical models
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing controls or sensors.
- 1. Verify actual temperature: Use a separate thermometer to confirm that the freezer is indeed much colder than setpoint.
- 2. Check temperature setting: Ensure the set temperature is not at the coldest setting unintentionally.
- 3. Inspect and test cabinet sensor: Access the cabinet NTC sensor and measure resistance. If it reads as if the cabinet is warm when it is actually very cold, replace the sensor.
- 4. Check control board relays: If the compressor runs continuously even when the setpoint is reached and the sensor is good, the compressor relay on the control board may be stuck closed. Replace the main control board.
- 5. Mechanical thermostat models: If your Electrolux chest freezer uses a mechanical thermostat, test it for proper open/close operation and replace if it fails to open at the correct temperature.
