Possible Causes
Spilled food trapped under liners, Contaminated defrost drain, Mold growth on gaskets and plastic surfaces, Poor air circulation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before deep cleaning. Use non-flammable, food-safe cleaners.
- 1. Empty and defrost: Remove all food and shelves. Allow any hidden ice to melt so you can access crevices.
- 2. Clean all surfaces: Wash interior walls, shelves, and baskets with a solution of baking soda and warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- 3. Clean door gasket: Gently pull back the gasket folds and clean inside with mild detergent. Dry completely to prevent mold.
- 4. Flush defrost drain: Pour a mixture of warm water and a small amount of vinegar down the defrost drain to remove organic buildup.
- 5. Deodorize: Place an open box of baking soda or a commercial refrigerator deodorizer inside for several days.
