Possible Causes
Stuck-closed mechanical thermostat, Misreading electronic temperature sensor, Faulty main control board not cycling compressor off, Incorrect sensor placement touching evaporator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing controls or sensors.
- 1. Adjust temperature setting: Raise the set temperature one or two steps and monitor for 24 hours. If no change, suspect a control fault.
- 2. Mechanical thermostat models: Access the thermostat knob assembly and test the thermostat contacts with a multimeter. If it remains closed regardless of knob position, replace the thermostat.
- 3. Electronic models: Check the cabinet temperature sensor location; it should not be in direct contact with the evaporator coil. Reposition if necessary.
- 4. Test sensor resistance: Measure the NTC sensor resistance and compare to the temperature chart. Replace if out of spec.
- 5. Replace main control board: If sensor is good but the compressor never cycles off, the control board relay may be stuck. Replace the main control board.
