Possible Causes
Misaligned door, Damaged door gasket preventing full closure, Faulty door switch, Warped cabinet or hinges
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal electrical work is required for basic checks, but unplug the unit if you adjust internal wiring or switches.
Steps to resolve E18:
- 1. Check door closure: Close the door slowly and observe if it contacts the cabinet evenly all around. Look for gaps, especially at the top corners.
- 2. Inspect gasket: Examine the door gasket for tears, deformation, or hardened sections. Clean it with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- 3. Paper test: Place a sheet of paper between the door and cabinet and close the door. Gently pull the paper; if it slides out easily in some areas, the seal is weak there.
- 4. Adjust door: Check the hinges for looseness. Tighten hinge screws and, if possible, slightly adjust the door position to improve alignment.
- 5. Check door switch: Ensure the door switch is being fully depressed when the door closes (see E6). Replace if faulty.
- 6. Replace gasket if needed: If the gasket is damaged or will not seal even after warming and reshaping with a hairdryer (on low heat), replace the door gasket.
Note: Persistent E18 after mechanical corrections may indicate a control logic issue and require technician diagnosis.
