Possible Causes

Failed magnetic reed door switch, Stuck mechanical door switch, Broken door switch wiring, Misaligned door magnet (on some models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains before removing any control covers or switch housings.

Steps to resolve E6:

  • 1. Check door operation: Open and close the door while observing the interior light and display. If the light stays on when the door is closed or never comes on, the switch may be faulty.
  • 2. Locate the door switch: On Essentials freezers, the door switch is usually in the door frame near the top or side, or integrated into the control housing.
  • 3. Inspect the switch: Press the switch plunger by hand (if mechanical) and see if the light toggles. If not, remove the switch from the liner (usually clipped or held by a small screw).
  • 4. Test continuity: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the switch wires and test continuity while pressing and releasing the switch. It should open and close reliably. If it stays open or closed, replace it.
  • 5. Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the switch to the control PCB for damage or loose connectors.
  • 6. Replace the switch: Install a new door switch / door sensor and ensure it is properly aligned so the door fully depresses it when closed.

Note: If the switch tests good but E6 persists, the issue may be on the main control PCB, which should be checked by a technician.
