Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver on main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the evaporator fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp.

Steps to address E8:

  • 1. Listen for fan operation: After the compressor has been running for several minutes (with the unit plugged in), you should normally hear the evaporator fan. If silent, proceed with checks.
  • 2. Access the fan: Remove the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
  • 3. Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. If present, fully defrost the area by unplugging the unit and allowing ice to melt. Do not chip ice with tools.
  • 4. Spin the fan by hand: With power off, gently rotate the fan blades. They should spin freely without grinding. If seized or very stiff, the motor is likely bad.
  • 5. Test the motor: Disconnect the fan motor connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also inspect the harness for damage.
  • 6. Replace the fan motor: Install a new evaporator fan motor assembly, transferring the fan blade if necessary. Ensure the blade is oriented correctly and not rubbing the shroud.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and confirm that the fan runs when the compressor is on.

Note: If the fan motor tests good but does not receive voltage, the main control PCB or wiring may be faulty and should be checked by a technician.
