Exterior sides of the freezer feel very hot to the touch.

Possible Causes

Condenser coils embedded in cabinet working hard, Poor ventilation around freezer, Dirty condenser (for coil-on-back models), High ambient temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Surfaces may be hot but should not be scalding. If you smell burning, unplug immediately.

Steps to reduce exterior heat:

  • 1. Improve ventilation: Ensure at least the manufacturer-recommended clearance around the sides, back, and top of the freezer.
  • 2. Clean condenser: For models with exposed coils, vacuum dust and lint thoroughly.
  • 3. Check ambient temperature: Avoid placing the freezer in very hot rooms or near heat sources.
  • 4. Monitor operation: If the cabinet remains excessively hot and the compressor runs constantly, have a technician check for sealed-system issues.

Note: Warm sides are normal on many Essentials freezers, especially shortly after startup or during heavy use.
