Possible Causes
Defective freezer thermistor, Loose or oxidized connector at control board, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before servicing.
E1 on many Frigidaire freezers indicates a problem with the primary freezer temperature sensor.
- Step 1 – Power cycle: Unplug for 5 minutes and restore power. If E1 returns, continue.
- Step 2 – Access control housing: On upright models, remove the control cover at the top front of the freezer. On chest models, access the control behind the front panel.
- Step 3 – Check sensor connection: Locate the freezer thermistor connector on the board. Unplug and replug it several times to clean contacts.
- Step 4 – Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor at the liner side and measure resistance. Compare to spec; replace if out of range.
- Step 5 – Harness continuity: If thermistor is good, test continuity from the thermistor plug to the board connector. Repair any open or shorted wires.
- Step 6 – Replace board: If all else checks out, replace the electronic control board.
