Possible Causes
Failed defrost/evaporator thermistor, Loose connector at defrost sensor, Wiring damage in evaporator compartment, Defective control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the freezer before removing the evaporator cover or working near the defrost system.
E2 generally points to a problem with the defrost/evaporator sensor.
- Step 1 – Access evaporator: Remove baskets and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator coil.
- Step 2 – Locate defrost sensor: The defrost thermistor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or attached near the defrost heater.
- Step 3 – Inspect and reseat: Check the sensor and wiring for damage, ice encasement, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector.
- Step 4 – Test sensor: Disconnect and measure resistance at current coil temperature. Compare to the temperature/resistance chart. Replace if open, shorted, or out of spec.
- Step 5 – Check harness: Verify continuity from the sensor to the control board. Repair any damaged wiring.
- Step 6 – Replace control: If sensor and wiring are good but E2 persists, replace the electronic control board.
