Possible Causes

Failed freezer temperature sensor (thermistor), Open or shorted sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector at control board, Defective electronic control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the freezer or switch off the circuit breaker before removing any panels or handling wiring.

This code usually indicates a problem with the freezer temperature sensor circuit.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. If H1 returns after a few minutes of operation, continue.
  • Step 2 – Locate the freezer thermistor: Inside the freezer compartment, look for a small plastic sensor cover on the rear or side liner (often near the evaporator cover). Remove the cover if present.
  • Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor leads for damage, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Step 4 – Test the thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~77°F / 25°C), most Frigidaire thermistors read around 10kΩ (check service data if available). If it reads open (OL) or near 0Ω, replace the thermistor.
  • Step 5 – Check continuity to control board: Access the main control board (usually in a rear machine compartment or top control housing). With power off, check continuity from the thermistor connector to the board pins. Repair any open or shorted wires.
  • Step 6 – Replace parts as needed: If wiring and thermistor test good but H1 persists, the electronic control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.

If you are not comfortable testing live circuits or accessing the control board, contact a qualified technician.
