Possible Causes
Failed ambient temperature sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged harness between ambient sensor and control board, Defective electronic control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before accessing any internal components.
H2 typically indicates a problem with the ambient (room) temperature sensor used by the control to regulate operation.
- Step 1 – Confirm environment: Ensure the freezer is installed in a location within the recommended ambient temperature range (usually 55–110°F). Extreme cold or heat can trigger sensor-related issues.
- Step 2 – Locate ambient sensor: On many Frigidaire freezers, the ambient sensor is located behind the front grille, near the control housing, or in the machine compartment. Refer to the tech sheet if available.
- Step 3 – Inspect and reseat: Check the sensor body and wiring for damage. Unplug and replug the connector to clear oxidation.
- Step 4 – Test sensor resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to expected values (often ~10kΩ at 77°F). Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Step 5 – Check wiring to board: Verify continuity from the sensor connector to the control board. Repair any broken or shorted wires.
- Step 6 – Replace control board if needed: If sensor and wiring are good but H2 remains, replace the electronic control board.
