Possible Causes
Shorted thermistor, Moisture bridging sensor terminals, Pinched or shorted wiring harness, Failed electronic control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the freezer before testing or replacing components.
SH indicates the control sees a short circuit on a temperature sensor input.
- Step 1 – Identify sensor: Use the model's tech sheet to determine which sensor (freezer, evaporator, or ambient) is reporting SH.
- Step 2 – Visual inspection: Locate the sensor and inspect for water intrusion, ice buildup, or damaged insulation that could cause a short.
- Step 3 – Resistance test: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. A reading near 0Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if shorted.
- Step 4 – Harness check: With the sensor removed, check resistance from each harness lead to chassis ground and between leads. Any near-zero reading indicates a short in the wiring; repair or replace the harness.
- Step 5 – Control board: If sensor and wiring are good but SH persists, the control board input is likely damaged and the board should be replaced.
