Possible Causes

Failing condenser fan motor, Vibrating copper tubing touching cabinet, Compressor mounting grommets worn, Overloaded compressor struggling to start

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the freezer before touching any moving parts or metal tubing.

  • Step 1 – Isolate noise source: Pull the freezer away from the wall and remove the rear access panel. Plug it in and carefully listen to identify whether the noise comes from the fan or compressor.
  • Step 2 – Condenser fan: If the fan is noisy or wobbling, check for debris and clean the blades. If the motor still hums or grinds, replace the condenser fan motor.
  • Step 3 – Compressor vibration: Inspect the rubber mounting grommets under the compressor. Replace if cracked or missing. Gently bend any copper lines that are touching each other or the cabinet to eliminate rattles (do not kink the tubing).
  • Step 4 – Start device: If the compressor buzzes for a few seconds then clicks off, test and replace the start relay and overload.
