Possible Causes
Door left open or not sealing, Heavy warm food load recently added, Evaporator fan not running, Condenser coils clogged with dust
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid using sharp tools to remove frost or ice; this can puncture refrigerant lines.
- Check the door: Ensure the freezer door or lid is fully closed and the gasket is clean and undamaged. Remove any items blocking the door from closing.
- Inspect for warm food load: If you recently added a large quantity of unfrozen food, the HI alarm may be normal. Allow 12–24 hours for temperature to recover.
- Clean condenser coils: Unplug the freezer. Pull it away from the wall and vacuum dust from the condenser coils and grille (often at the back or underneath). Restore power and monitor.
- Listen for the evaporator fan: With the door open, press the door switch and listen for a fan running inside the freezer. If silent, the evaporator fan motor may have failed.
- Clear the alarm: Press the Alarm Reset or Set button to silence the alarm. If the HI condition returns repeatedly, further diagnosis of the sealed system or controls is needed.
