Possible Causes

Temperature set too low, Failed temperature sensor (thermistor) reading low, Stuck or shorted control relay, Defective main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Use insulated gloves when handling items in an over-cold freezer to avoid skin injury.

  • Check set temperature: Confirm the setpoint on the control panel. For most GE Profile freezers, -2°F to 0°F (-19°C to -18°C) is adequate. Raise the set temperature if it is set extremely low.
  • Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 2 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the control board. Observe whether the LO indication clears.
  • Verify sensor placement: If your model has an exposed thermistor bulb, ensure it is not touching the evaporator coil directly or encased in ice, which can cause false low readings.
  • Monitor operation: If the compressor runs almost constantly and LO persists even after adjusting the setpoint, the temperature sensor or main control board may be faulty and require replacement.
