Possible Causes
Open or shorted freezer thermistor, Damaged thermistor wiring harness, Corroded thermistor connector, Failed main control board thermistor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing interior panels or handling wiring.
- Locate the thermistor: In many GE Profile freezers, the thermistor is a small plastic-encased sensor mounted on the interior wall or clipped to the evaporator cover.
- Inspect for damage: Check the sensor body and wires for cuts, breaks, or signs of moisture intrusion.
- Check connections: Follow the thermistor wires to the connector and ensure it is fully seated on the harness.
- Test resistance (advanced): With the thermistor disconnected and at room temperature (~77°F / 25°C), measure resistance with a multimeter. GE NTC thermistors typically read around 5–10 kΩ at room temp (check service data for your model). Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Replace thermistor: If faulty, install a GE-compatible freezer thermistor, route the wires as originally, and secure the sensor in the same location.
