Possible Causes
Temperature set too low, Stuck or shorted temperature sensor (thermistor), Faulty electronic control board, Defective temperature control knob or thermostat (mechanical models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the freezer before accessing control panels or wiring. Avoid using sharp tools near plastic liners or wiring.
- Step 1 – Check setpoint: Verify the temperature setting on the Gladiator control panel. Adjust to the recommended 0°F (-18°C) and wait 24 hours to see if the condition corrects.
- Step 2 – Inspect for stuck controls: On mechanical dial models, rotate the thermostat knob from coldest to warmest and back to ensure it moves freely. On electronic models, confirm buttons respond and the display changes.
- Step 3 – Test thermistor (advanced DIY): Unplug the unit. Locate the freezer thermistor (usually clipped to the evaporator cover or liner). Disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter; compare to Gladiator/WP specs at room temperature. Replace if readings are out of range or open/shorted.
- Step 4 – Evaluate control board: If the thermistor is good and the compressor runs excessively, the electronic control board or cold control thermostat may be stuck closed and require replacement.
