How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing panels or working near wiring.

How to check:

  • Access the evaporator: Empty the freezer drawers/shelves. Remove the rear interior panel of the freezer (usually held by screws and clips). If it is iced over, allow the unit to defrost fully before forcing the panel off.
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: It is typically clipped to the evaporator coil or attached to the coil with a metal clip or plastic holder.
  • Inspect the sensor and cable: Look for damage to the insulation, signs of crushing by ice, or a sensor that has fallen away from the coil.
  • Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor from its connector and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the expected NTC value for the approximate temperature (e.g., at 0°C many NTCs are around 12–30 kΩ). If open or shorted, replace.
  • Reattach or replace: If the sensor is intact but out of position, re-clip it firmly to the evaporator. If faulty, install a new Grundig evaporator NTC sensor and secure it in the same location.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and monitor for correct operation and disappearance of E2.
