Possible Causes
Failed relay or triac on main control PCB, Burnt PCB tracks due to surge, Internal microcontroller fault, Corroded PCB from moisture ingress
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before accessing the control board. Capacitors on the PCB may hold charge briefly after unplugging.
Procedure:
- Access main PCB: On many Grundig freezers the main board is located in a rear lower compartment or behind a top control cover. Remove the appropriate panel.
- Visual inspection: Look for burnt components, darkened areas, cracked solder joints, or swollen capacitors.
- Check connectors: Ensure all harness connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion.
- Relay test (basic): If you are experienced, you can test continuity across relay contacts (with power off) and check coil resistance. However, most PCB faults are resolved by replacement rather than component-level repair.
- Replace PCB: If there is clear damage or E6 persists after checking sensors and wiring, replace the main control PCB with the exact Grundig part number. Transfer any jumper settings or configuration plugs as per service documentation.
- Reassemble and test: Refit covers, restore power, and verify normal operation and that E6 no longer appears.
