Possible Causes
Defective defrost heater, Faulty defrost thermostat or sensor, Defrost timer/control failure on main PCB, Blocked defrost drain causing refreezing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and prepare for water from melting ice.
Steps:
- Full defrost: Allow the freezer to defrost completely. This may take several hours.
- Access evaporator: Remove the rear interior panel to inspect the evaporator, heater, and defrost thermostat/sensor.
- Test heater and thermostat: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the defrost heater and thermostat. Replace any open components.
- Check defrost sensor: Measure resistance of the defrost NTC sensor and compare to expected values. Replace if faulty.
- Control board: If all defrost components are good, the main PCB may not be initiating defrost cycles. Replace the main control PCB.
