Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain channel, Frozen drain due to failed drain heater, Misaligned drain tube to drip tray, Debris or mold buildup in drain grommet

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination; ensure the area is dry before restoring power.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Access drain area: Remove the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator and the drain trough beneath it.
  • 2. Clear visible ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a squeeze bottle or turkey baster to melt ice in the drain trough and opening. Remove any food particles or debris.
  • 3. Flush the drain: Once the opening is clear, slowly pour warm water into the drain hole and verify that it flows freely into the rear drip tray above the compressor. If water backs up, the drain tube is still blocked.
  • 4. Clean drain grommet: From the rear of the freezer, locate the rubber drain grommet where the tube exits into the drip tray. Remove and clean it thoroughly; mold or sludge here often causes blockages. Reinstall securely.
  • 5. Check drain heater (if fitted): Some Hansa no-frost models have a small heater near the drain to prevent freezing. Test for continuity and replace if open.

Tip: After clearing the drain, allow the unit to run for a full defrost cycle and recheck for leaks or ice buildup.
