Possible Causes
Defective mechanical door switch, Failed magnetic reed sensor in cabinet frame, Misaligned door magnet, Broken wiring to door switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before testing or replacing switches. Use a non-contact voltage tester if unsure about live wires.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Identify switch type: Hansa freezers may use a plunger-style mechanical switch or a hidden magnetic reed sensor. Look around the door frame for a visible switch or magnet.
- 2. Test mechanical switch: Press the plunger in and out; the interior light should turn on/off (when briefly powered for testing). If not, unplug and remove the switch. Test for continuity with a multimeter while pressing the plunger. Replace if it does not change state.
- 3. Check magnetic sensor: Ensure the door magnet is present and aligned with the sensor location. If the light or alarm does not respond to door opening/closing, the reed sensor or its wiring may be faulty and should be replaced.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Check for damaged or loose wires around the switch area and where they enter the cabinet. Repair or replace as needed.
