Possible Causes
Stuck-closed thermostat or sensor, Control board not cycling compressor off, Miscalibrated temperature sensor, Shorted sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid touching metal surfaces with wet hands in very cold conditions.
- Verify settings: Set the freezer to a warmer setting and wait 12 hours. If temperature does not change, the control may not be responding.
- Test cabinet sensor: Access and test the cabinet NTC sensor as in the E1 scenario. Replace if resistance is out of range.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness for shorts (insulation rubbed through, wires touching) which can make the control think the freezer is warmer than it is.
- Observe compressor run time: If the compressor runs nearly 100% of the time regardless of temperature, the control board relay may be stuck.
- Replace control components: Replace the temperature sensor first. If overcooling persists, the main control board or thermostat assembly may need replacement.
If you are not comfortable testing electronics, have a technician diagnose the control system.
