Possible Causes
Stuck defrost relay on main control PCB, Faulty defrost sensor feedback, Software timing error in control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before working on the control system.
- Check for heavy frost: Remove the inner rear panel and inspect the evaporator. If heavily iced, manually defrost the unit completely.
- Test defrost sensor: Refer to the defrost sensor fault section (F3) and verify the sensor is functioning.
- Inspect control PCB: Look for signs of overheating around the defrost relay on the main control board.
- Force defrost (advanced): Some Hitachi models allow entering a service mode to force a defrost cycle. Refer to the service manual if available.
- Replace main control PCB: If the heater and sensor are good but d1 persists, replace the main control PCB.
