Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Loose or damaged fan wiring, Faulty main control PCB fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Fan blades can be sharp; avoid spinning them by hand with power connected.
- Access evaporator fan: Remove shelves and the rear inner panel of the freezer to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Check for ice buildup: Look for heavy frost or ice blocking the fan. If present, defrost the unit completely by leaving it unplugged with doors open for several hours and protect the floor from water.
- Inspect fan blades and motor: Ensure the blades spin freely by hand and are not rubbing against housing or wiring.
- Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the fan to the main control PCB for damage or loose plugs.
- Replace fan motor: Install a new Hitachi evaporator fan motor if defective. Reassemble the panel ensuring no wires contact the fan blades.
- Control PCB: If the fan motor is good but never receives voltage when the compressor is running, the main control PCB may be faulty.
