Possible Causes
Defective ambient NTC sensor, Sensor disconnected from control PCB, Wiring harness damage in control fascia, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect the freezer from mains power before opening the control panel.
- Locate the ambient sensor: On many Hoover freezers with digital displays, the ambient sensor is located near the control panel or behind a small grille on the front/top fascia.
- Remove control fascia: Carefully unclip or unscrew the control housing. Take care not to pull on the wiring.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Look for a small probe-type sensor or thermistor on a pair of thin wires. Check for broken insulation, loose connectors, or corrosion.
- Test the sensor: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature (around 20–25 °C). Typical NTC values are in the 5–20 kΩ range. An open or shorted reading indicates a failed sensor.
- Check harness to PCB: If the sensor tests OK, check continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB connector to rule out a broken wire.
- Replace if faulty: Install a new ambient temperature sensor (NTC) compatible with your Hoover model if the original is out of spec. Route the wiring as originally installed and secure it away from sharp edges.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the control fascia, restore power, and verify that the E3 code clears and the displayed temperature is stable.
Call a professional: If the sensor and wiring are confirmed good, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
