E9 error, high temperature alarm active, freezer not cooling adequately.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing panels. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system unless you are certified to handle refrigerants.
- Check door sealing and loading: Ensure the door gasket seals all around and that the door is not being held open by baskets or food. Overloading can restrict airflow and cause warm spots.
- Inspect evaporator frost pattern: Remove the internal rear panel to view the evaporator. A healthy system shows an even light frost across most of the coil. Heavy solid ice or only a small section frosted indicates a problem.
- Defrost if iced: If the evaporator is a solid block of ice, fully defrost the unit and check the defrost system (heater, thermostat, sensor) for faults.
- Listen to compressor: After reassembly and power-up, listen for the compressor running smoothly. Clicking on and off every few minutes may indicate a compressor or start-gear issue.
- Monitor temperature: Place a freezer thermometer inside and monitor over 24 hours. If the unit cannot reach around -18 °C despite continuous running and good airflow, a sealed-system fault is likely.
Important: Low gas, blocked capillary, or a failing compressor require specialized tools and must be repaired by a qualified refrigeration technician. Do not attempt to recharge or open the system yourself.
