Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstructing fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing internal panels. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp.
- Access the fan: Remove baskets and the rear internal panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Check for ice blockage: Inspect the fan blades and surrounding shroud for ice build-up. If present, fully defrost the freezer and correct any defrost system issues.
- Spin the fan by hand: With power off, gently rotate the fan blades. They should move freely without grinding or stiffness.
- Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor wires and connector for damage or loose connections.
- Test the fan motor: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, also check for short to ground.
- Replace the fan motor: If faulty, install a new evaporator fan motor compatible with your Hoover freezer. Transfer the fan blade if it is separate and ensure it is seated correctly.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and confirm the fan runs when the compressor is operating and that the F3 code clears.
Technician note: If the fan tests good but does not receive voltage when it should, the main PCB may be defective.
