Possible Causes
Failed display PCB, Broken ribbon cable between UI and main board, Stuck or shorted keypad, Moisture ingress into control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the control panel. Avoid static discharge to electronic components.
Steps:
- Check child lock: Some Hotpoint models have a control lock feature. Hold the lock/unlock button (often 3–5 seconds) to ensure the panel is not simply locked.
- Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5–10 minutes to reset the electronics, then plug back in and see if the display recovers.
- Inspect the control housing: Remove the screws securing the top or front control panel. Gently pull it forward to access the display board and wiring.
- Check connections: Ensure the ribbon cable and harness connectors between the UI board and main board are fully seated and not damaged.
- Look for corrosion: Signs of moisture or corrosion on the display PCB indicate it should be replaced.
- Replace UI board: If the main board is supplying power but the display remains dead or erratic, install a new Hotpoint-compatible user interface/display board. Transfer any button overlays as needed.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the panel, restore power, and verify that buttons respond and the display shows correct temperatures.
