Possible Causes

Failed ice maker NTC sensor, Faulty ice level optical sensor, Broken wiring to ice module, Ice maker control fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the ice maker and unplug the freezer before servicing the ice area.

Steps:

  • Disable ice maker: Use the on/off switch or control setting to turn off ice production.
  • Access ice maker: Remove the ice bin and any covers to expose the ice maker assembly and its wiring.
  • Inspect sensors: Look for a small temperature sensor on the ice mold or an optical sensor pair on the sides of the ice bin area. Check for ice buildup or misalignment.
  • Clear obstructions: Remove any ice jams or frost blocking the sensors. Do not use sharp tools on plastic parts.
  • Test wiring: Ensure connectors to the ice maker module and sensors are fully seated and wires are not broken.
  • Replace faulty components: If the sensor tests open/short or the optical sensor is clearly defective, replace with a Hotpoint-compatible ice maker sensor or module.
  • Restore power and test: Turn the ice maker back on and monitor for normal ice production over 24–48 hours.
