Freezer shows high temperature error shortly after power-up, compressor runs continuously

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the compressor area. Compressor and condenser can be hot.

Steps:

• Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate space around the freezer and that vents are not blocked.
• Clean condenser: Remove rear lower panel and clean dust from condenser coils with a brush and vacuum.
• Inspect start device: Check the compressor start relay/overload for signs of overheating or damage. Replace with the correct Hotpoint part if suspect.
• Monitor compressor: After restoring power, listen for repeated clicking or very hot compressor shell, which indicates overload tripping.
• Professional diagnosis: If the compressor is drawing excessive current or not starting properly even with a new start device, the compressor itself may be failing and will require a sealed-system technician to replace.
