Hotpoint
Short Cycling – Control or Sensor Issue
Freezer cycles on and off frequently, short run times
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Oversensitive thermostat, Misplaced temperature sensor, Poor air circulation around sensor, Control board hysteresis too narrow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before adjusting sensors or controls.
Steps:
- Check loading: A nearly empty freezer can short-cycle more. Add water-filled containers to increase thermal mass.
- Sensor placement: Ensure the temperature sensor or thermostat sensing bulb is not directly in the airflow from the evaporator fan or touching the evaporator.
- Adjust thermostat: Slightly change the setpoint and observe behavior over 24 hours.
- Replace thermostat/sensor: If short cycling persists and temperatures fluctuate, replace the thermostat or NTC sensor with an OEM Hotpoint part.
