Possible Causes
Stuck-closed mechanical thermostat, Misreading NTC temperature sensor, Faulty control board not cycling compressor, Thermostat sensing bulb out of position
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the thermostat or sensor.
Steps:
- Adjust setting: Turn the temperature control to a slightly warmer setting and monitor for 24 hours. If no change, suspect a control fault.
- Mechanical thermostat: Access the thermostat behind the control knob. Check that the sensing capillary tube is properly clipped and not kinked. Test the thermostat for continuity; it should open at warmer temperatures.
- Electronic sensor: Test the NTC sensor resistance and compare to expected values. Replace if out of range.
- Control board: If the thermostat/sensor is good but the compressor never cycles off, the main control board may be stuck calling for cooling and should be replaced.
