Possible Causes

Control board stuck in defrost mode, Faulty defrost sensor feedback, Relay on board not switching back to cooling, Software glitch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing internal components.

Steps:

  • 1. Wait and observe: A normal defrost cycle can last 20–40 minutes. If dF remains for several hours and the freezer warms significantly, there is likely a fault.
  • 2. Power cycle: Unplug for 10–15 minutes to reset the control. If dF reappears and stays, proceed with checks.
  • 3. Check defrost sensor: Test the evaporator defrost NTC as described under F3. Incorrect readings can cause the board to misjudge defrost completion.
  • 4. Inspect control board: Look for signs of damage around the defrost relay. If the relay is stuck closed, the heater may stay on too long.
  • 5. Replace faulty parts: Replace the defrost sensor if readings are off. If the sensor is good, replace the main control board.

Warning: Prolonged defrost heater operation can overheat the cabinet; disconnect power if you suspect the heater is stuck on.
