Possible Causes
Defective ambient NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring in door or cabinet liner, Loose connector at control board, Faulty electronic control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect the freezer from power before removing any covers or touching wiring.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- 1. Confirm error: Press any button to silence alarms and see if F2 reappears after a few minutes of operation.
- 2. Locate ambient sensor: On many IKEA freezers, the ambient/cabinet sensor is located near the top front of the cabinet behind the control panel or behind a small grille inside the liner. Remove the control panel cover or inner trim as needed.
- 3. Visual inspection: Look for broken insulation, pinched wires (especially where they pass through the cabinet), or corrosion at connectors.
- 4. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature (approx. 20–25°C). Typical NTC values are 5–15 kΩ. If the reading is open or shorted, replace the sensor.
- 5. Check continuity of wiring: If the sensor tests good, check continuity from the sensor connector to the control board connector using a multimeter. Repair or replace damaged harness sections.
- 6. Replace control board if needed: If sensor and wiring are OK but F2 persists, the main control board is likely defective. Replace it following the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring all connectors are firmly seated.
Professional help: Recommended if you need to open the cabinet trim or are not experienced with electrical testing.
