Possible Causes
Defective mechanical door switch, Failed magnetic reed sensor in cabinet, Broken wiring in door harness, Faulty control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing any switch or trim parts.
Steps:
- 1. Locate door switch/sensor: On many IKEA upright freezers, the door switch is a push-button in the frame or a hidden magnetic reed sensor behind the liner near the top.
- 2. Test mechanical switch: If there is a visible push-button, gently pry it out, disconnect the wires, and test for continuity while pressing and releasing the button. Replace if it does not change state.
- 3. Magnetic sensor: If no visible switch, the unit may use a magnetic sensor. Check the door gasket area for a magnet strip and inspect the wiring behind the top trim. Testing often requires access to the control board and a service manual.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Look for pinched or broken wires where they pass into the cabinet.
- 5. Replace faulty switch/sensor: Install the correct OEM part, ensuring it is seated firmly and the gasket or trim seals properly.
- 6. If F7 persists: The control board input circuit may be damaged and require replacement.
Tip: A faulty door switch can also cause the fan to stop and the light to stay on, warming the freezer.
