Possible Causes
Loose ribbon cable between UI and main board, Corroded or oxidized connectors, Failed user interface PCB, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing the control panel.
How to proceed:
- 1. Remove control panel: On IKEA freezers, the display and buttons are usually in a top-front panel. Remove screws or unclip the panel carefully.
- 2. Check ribbon cable: Inspect the flat cable between the user interface (UI) board and the main control board. Reseat both ends, ensuring they are fully inserted and locked.
- 3. Inspect for moisture: Look for signs of condensation or corrosion on the UI board. Dry gently if damp and correct any source of moisture ingress.
- 4. Visual inspection: Check for burnt components or cracked solder joints on the UI board.
- 5. Replace UI board: If reseating cables does not resolve F8 and the main board appears normal, replace the user interface PCB with the correct IKEA/Whirlpool/Electrolux part.
- 6. Main board replacement: If a new UI does not fix the issue, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
Note: Handle PCBs by the edges and avoid static discharge by touching a grounded metal object first.
