Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Cracked drain pan, Excessive frost due to door seal leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing panels. Use towels to catch water.
Steps:
- 1. Locate drain: Inside the freezer, remove the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator. At the bottom, there is usually a drain trough and hole.
- 2. Clear blockage: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or syringe to flush the drain hole until water flows freely to the drain pan under the unit.
- 3. Check drain tube: From the rear, inspect the drain tube leading to the pan for kinks or ice. Gently warm with a hair dryer if frozen (avoid overheating plastic).
- 4. Inspect drain pan: Ensure the pan is not cracked and is properly positioned under the drain tube.
- 5. Door seal: Repair or replace a leaking gasket to reduce excess frost and defrost water.
