Possible Causes

Open-circuit evaporator NTC sensor, Shorted evaporator NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector at main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing internal panels.

Locate the evaporator sensor:

  • On most Indesit upright freezers, the evaporator NTC is clipped to the evaporator coil behind the internal rear liner panel.
  • Remove internal drawers and the rear plastic panel inside the freezer to expose the evaporator.

Check the sensor and wiring:

  • Visually inspect the small probe (usually in a plastic sleeve) attached to the evaporator tubing. Look for broken wires, corrosion, or ice damage.
  • Follow the sensor wires to the connector and ensure it is firmly plugged into the harness.
  • Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the NTC at room temperature. Typical Indesit NTCs are in the 4–20 kΩ range depending on type and temperature. An infinite reading indicates open circuit; near 0 Ω indicates a short.

Corrective actions:

  • If the sensor is open or shorted, replace it with the exact Indesit evaporator NTC specified for your model.
  • If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the harness, ensuring all joints are insulated and secured away from sharp metal edges.
  • After replacement, reassemble the rear panel carefully to avoid crushing the sensor wires.
