Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer. The compressor area may be hot; allow it to cool before touching.
Access the compressor compartment:
- Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor and electrical box.
- Locate the start relay/PTC and overload protector attached to the compressor terminals.
Inspection and testing:
- Check for burnt smell or discoloration on the relay/PTC housing.
- Gently remove the relay and overload from the compressor pins.
- Shake the PTC relay; if it rattles or pieces fall out, it is likely failed.
- Test continuity of the overload protector with a multimeter; it should be closed (low resistance) at room temperature.
Repair:
- Replace a faulty start relay/PTC and/or overload protector with the correct Indesit-specified kit for your compressor model.
- Ensure the new components are firmly seated on the compressor terminals and that the wiring connectors are tight.
- Reinstall the cover and restore power to test operation.
Note: If the compressor still fails to start and draws high current, the compressor itself may be mechanically seized and will require a professional sealed-system repair.
