Possible Causes
Defrost heater failure, Defrost thermostat/thermal fuse open, Defrost timer or control board fault, Door gasket leaking moist air
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and place towels around the base to catch water.
Manual defrost:
- Remove all food to a backup freezer or cool box.
- Leave the door open and allow the ice to melt naturally, or use bowls of hot water inside to speed up the process. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
After defrosting:
- Inspect the door gasket and replace if damaged.
- Access the evaporator and test the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity; replace any failed components.
- If heater and thermostat are good, the main control board's defrost function may be faulty and require replacement.
