Insignia freezer shows E5; compressor may not run or may run continuously; temperature control seems unresponsive.

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the control board. Capacitors on the board may hold a small charge; avoid touching components unnecessarily.

Steps:

• Power cycle: Unplug the freezer for 10–15 minutes to allow the control to fully discharge. Plug back in and check if E5 returns.
• Access control board: On Insignia freezers, the main control board is typically behind a rear metal cover or behind the top control panel. Remove screws and gently pull the cover.
• Inspect for damage: Look for burnt components, darkened areas, or corrosion from moisture. Check that all harness connectors are fully seated and not loose.
• Check for pin damage: Inspect connector pins for bending, burning, or green corrosion. Clean light oxidation with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush.
• Re-seat connectors: Disconnect and reconnect each harness one at a time to ensure good contact.
• Replace board if needed: If E5 persists and no external wiring faults are found, replace the main control board with the correct Insignia part number for your model. Transfer any jumper settings or wiring exactly as on the original.

Note: Board replacement is sensitive to static electricity; ground yourself before handling the new board.
